Monday Announcements

SURRY CLASSES
If you are interested in taking Surry Community College spring classes
2nd semester, please see Ms. Pennix in Building G-600 on Tuesdays from
9 am – 2 pm. Most classes fill quickly so do not hesitate.

SURRY
A representative from SCC will speak on November 17th from 8:30-9:30
about the CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) and ADN (Associate Degree
of Nursing) at SCC. CNA is a prerequisite required to be admitted into
most Nursing programs.
A representative from FTCC will be speaking on November 21st during
1st & 2nd period & December 1st during 4th period about the RIBN
partnership program for nursing.
Anyone one interested in attending one of these Nursing Information
Sessions who is not already in Mrs. Sloan's classes should see Mrs.
Sloan to make arrangements to attend. Deadline to sign up is Nov 10.
Student must ask their teacher for permission to attend in advance.
Space is limited; therefore attendance will be a first-come,
first-serve basis.

HOSA
There will be a HOSA meeting Thursday November 3rd after school in
Mrs. Sloan's room. We will discuss several items. Please make plans to
attend.

STUDENT LEADERSHIP TEAM
Students interested in becoming a member of the Student Leadership
Team should email Coach James room 606G for an application. All
applications are due Monday, October 31st.

NHS
The deadline for NHS applications has been moved to 3:05 on November
4th. Please turn your completed envelope to Mrs. Roberts or Mr. Hauser
by the end of that school day.

SENIOR YEARBOOK ADS
Senior yearbook ad money and ad content is due to Ms. McCollum by
November 1st. Please see the FHS website for more information and
forms.

SENIOR JOSTENS MEETING
Seniors will meet with Jostens concerning graduation items November
1st at 9:45 am. Orders will be collected November 4th.

BASKETBALL
There will be a mandatory parent meeting tonight in the gym at 6:00
for anyone trying out for men's basketball. Tryouts will start
immediately following the meeting. Basketball tryouts will be held
today through Wednesday. Anyone wanting to tryout must have an updated
physical turned into Coach Christopherson ahead of time or you will
not be allowed to participate.

CROSS COUNTRY
Congratulations to the XC team. The Women's team was Regional
Champions and the Boys were the Regional Champion Runner-Ups. All
Region runners were Dakota Mendenhall, Charlie Wyrick, AK Kilby, Sarah
Hayden, Caroline Owens, and Madisun Shore. AK Kilby and Dakota
Mendenhall were both Regional Champions. The XC teams will compete in
the 2A State Meet on Saturday. Wish them luck!

MARSHALL BAKER DAY TOMORROW NOVEMBER 1st
Tomorrow Tuesday, November 1st is Marshall Baker Day! Please wear your t-shirts!
If you would like to purchase one, see Señora Helton in 703H. Shirts are $10.

Tomorrow during lunches stop by the Forbush News Team Table in the
Lobby of A building to send a personal recorded message to Marshall.

Tomorrow at 7:00 pm we will have a POWDER PUFF FOOTBALL GAME with all
proceeds going to Marshall Baker! Admission will be $3.

competitors in the State Finals for Women's Golf this past Monday and

The Forbush JROTC will sponsor ASVAB testing on the 9th of November at
8 AM in the Media Center. The test is open to all 10th through 12th
grade students interested in joining the military BUT you must sign up
with either Colonel Weatherstone or Master Sergeant Hayes in Room 130A
building.
The test is free and once complete, you will receive an ASVAB score
about three weeks after the test. This score can then be used to
discuss your options with military recruiters if you are planning on
going in the military after graduation. By taking the test you ARE
NOT obligated in any way to join the military.
See Colonel Weatherstone or Master Sergeant Hayes for details.

REPORT CARDS TODAY
Report cards will be distributed between third and fourth periods
today. Students, please report to your homeroom class when the bell
rings ending third period.

first at the WPAC Conference Meet. All Conference runners were Dakota
Mendenhall, Travis Dixon, Charlie Wyrick, AK Kilby, Caroline Owens,
Madisun Shore, Sarah Hayden, Hannah Pearson, and Laura Wyrick.
Both Dakota Mendenhall and Anna Kathryn Kilby were WPAC Runner of the Year.

enrichment program hosted at UNCC, ASU, & ECU. If interested, see

exploring now! DEADLINE: January 15TH.

UNC Splash is November 12th!
Visit UNC-Chapel Hill's campus to take a variety of interesting and
fun classes taught by Carolina students. UNC is offering over 120
classes with topics that range from college admissions, to

PSAT
Attention all 10th and 11th graders:
Sign-ups for PSAT continue today from 8:30 to 1:30 and end Wednesday,

The PSAT will take place on October 19th during school.
Over 3.5 million high school students take the National Merit
Scholarship Qualifying Test, also known as the PSAT each year. This
test helps you prepare for the SAT while determining your eligibility
for a National Merit Scholarship.

SOPHOMORES
The North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics is recruiting
sophomores interested in applying to NCSSM. Andrew Huggins from NCSSM
will present to students & their parents October 18th at 1:35 pm in
Forbush High School's Library. He will explain the application
process, SAT requirements, benefits of attending NCSSM, and also
provide his personal insight into this educational opportunity.
Parents ar nvited and encouraged to attend the information session.
Deadline to Sign up is October 13th.

​SIGN OUTS TODAY
Students that brought a sign out note this week will sign out at the table outside Cafeteria I in the walkway.​ Students will be handed a Bush Bash pass to show faculty at the gated exists in order to leave campus. No cars will be allowed to leave campus without showing the Bush Bash Pass at the gated drives. Each passenger in the cars exiting the campus must have a Bush Bash Pass.

Students that did not bring a note this week will need a parent to come in to sign students out. Parents signing out students will receive a Bush Bash pass to show faculty at the gated drives.

JROTC
The Forbush Falcon JROTC Cadets competed in the Elkin High School
drill meet winning 2nd place overall for the entire meet and the
following team events.
First place - Regulation platoon without arms
Second place - Regulation platoon with arms, squad with arms, duet,
Color guard and LET 1 squad with arms.
Third place - Regulation squad without arms and LET 1 squad without arms
Congrats to the JROTC drill team!

Also a "Big Thank You" to our JROTC cadets for cleaning up Falcon Road
and making the drive to our school a pleasant one.

PSAT

COLLEGE TOUR
If you are interested in touring Mars Hill, Western Carolina, and UNC
Asheville on October 11th please bring $35.00 and see Miss Sigmon. The
first 10 students with the money will be the ones that will be going.
We will be chartering a bus to go on tour.

SENIORS
Our Financial Aid Workshop is today, October 4th at 6 pm in
Auditorium. Learn how to apply for college money. If you are planning
to attend college next year and need money to help pay for college,
then you need to attend this workshop. Learn how to apply for
Financial Aid and Scholarships. Parents and students are encourage to
attend together

If you filled out a public library card application during our last

BUSH BASH

Bush Bash is this Friday beginning at 12:00.


Anyone interested in playing in the "Corn Hole" tournament at Bush Bash please see Coach Pruitt by Thursday morning. Tournament will be limited to 3 Teams per Class


Students if you are signing out Friday, please bring in your note any day this week before Thursday to the office.
